CLINICS
Antenatal
Clinic
We share the care of patients during pregnancy with our community midwives who
do fortnightly clinics at both surgeries. The doctors will happily see you at
any of our surgeries or clinics by appointment, giving you the choice of when
you come. The midwives can be contacted through the community midwife office
at the Conquest Hospital (telephone (01424) 755255).
Children’s Problems
Dr Stern has a special interest in children's problems and will see children
as part of any of the surgeries he does.
Minor Surgery
Dr Mirchandani will perform cautery and diathermy under local anaesthetic by
appointment. In addition he will also complete joint injections where necessary.
Please discuss your problem with one of the doctors first.
Acupuncture
Dr Mirchandani can perform acupuncture at a basic level, and can offer this for some muscular conditions. Please make an appointment with him if you think that this might help, so that he can assess the appropriateness of your case.
Family Planning
All the partners will give advice on contraception at any surgery - not just
a prescription for the pill but advice on all available methods to help you choose
the most suitable method. Dr Hargreaves is able to fit IUDs (contraceptive coils)
at the surgery, but you will need to discuss this with one of the doctors first
and make a special appointment beforehand for tests for infection.
Childhood Immunisation
The practice offers immunisation to all registered children under five years
of age in line with national guidelines.
Special Clinics Run By Practice Nurses
Our nurses are highly trained, and offer a variety of different services in addition to the above. These include annual asthma checks and smoking cessation clinics.
Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations
Please carefully complete a travel form and make an appointment at least two
months in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate advice and cover. A charge
will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered
by the NHS. A list of these charges is held at reception.
Diabetes Clinics
If you have diabetes, we would like to review you on a regular basis in order to ensure that the condition is kept under control. We would normally ask you to come to an appointment every six months; once to see the practice nurse, and once to see the doctor. The doctor and nurse would check for different things during their assessments, and may ask you to attend more frequently, depending on your case. When your appointment is due, we would normally invite you to make an appointment to see the appropriate member of staff.
Flu Vaccination
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart,
lung or kidney disease, diabetes, residents of nursing and rest homes and those
over 65 years of age.
Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination
dates and to make an appointment. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a
home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.
Cervical Smears
We are proud to say that, after years of hard work, most of our female patients
have had three-yearly cervical smears. Sadly, every year women die from cervical
cancer. Smears pick up early changes at a stage when treatment is easy and effective.
Our nurses will do smears by appointment.
Cardiac Review (BARCS)
Many patients diagnosed with heart disease or who have suffered a stroke can be reviewed following discharged from hospital. This can be done under the Bexhill and Rother Cardiac Scheme (BARCS).
Private Services
An increasing number of situations arise where we are asked to provide services
which are not part of the NHS provision. We must charge for this work and publish
lists of our charges. If you need a form completed we suggest you leave the form
with a covering note indicating when it is needed. Please give us as much time
as possible; sick patients will always take priority.
